Bruce Campbell Touring With New Movie. Who Wants Some?
If you're between the ages of 15 and 50, chances are you can recite at least one line from the Evil Dead series by heart. My personal favorite comes from Army of Darkness when Ash quite brusquely injures the feelings of the movie's damsel in distress:
The princessly Sheila: "But what of all those sweet words you spoke in private?"
The ever charming Ash: "Oh, that's just what we call pillow talk baby. That's all."
Makes me laugh every time.
Bruce "the Chin" Campbell has earned his status as a household name with lines like these. His performance in Bubba Ho-tep was genuinely impressive and proved that he could even be a semi-serious actor, not just a jokester with an infinite supply of one-liners. But really. Yeah, it's nice to know that he can actually act, but we want the jokester. Kill some skeletons and make me laugh darn it!
Bruce Campbell's latest film, My Name Is Bruce, will bring the laughs. The preview looks surprisingly good. Campbell plays Campbell, which isn't necessarily a positive thing. The arrogant, vain, vulgar, and alcoholic B movie star ends up in a standoff with an ancient Chinese demigod. The lousy special effects look hilarious, and "The Chin" appears ready to embrace his image as a man who makes bad movies really bad, but in a good way.
It's refreshing that Bruce Campbell understands his place in history as a glorious loser. My Name is Bruce is directed by the man himself and proves that he has no problem making fun of himself, the lousy films he's made, or the more despicable elements of his personality. In a sense, Bruce is the de facto representative of the entire "irony" generation.
My Name is Bruce has piqued my interest. Instead of appearing in theaters, the movie is touring the country with Bruce and the crew. I'm off to check Campbell's tour schedule to see if My Name is Bruce is coming through town in the near future. So should you, you might get the chance to laugh through a good movie and meet the irritatingly charming Senor Campbell in person.
And before you go, why not revisit the Chin's oeuvre of laughably bad B movies and satires? And there are plenty more A-grade blog posts ready for you:
