Johnny Depp to Make a Squid-load of Money in Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Despite the original source material for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise consisting of a water-bound rollercoaster ride through several scenes of inoculated debauchery and incarceration, the series has long since parted from its roots. Now, talk of a fourth installment is likely to stray further, with staggering salary figures that, unlike the first three films, are attached to one name instead of four.
Johnny Depp looks to make a whopping $56 million for his return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a film that will likely feature a.) a fictional monster from any major world culture's maritime past, b.) a vaguely-actual (in the sense that the name and/or person did exist) pirate from the Port Royal-era of Caribbean Piracy, with c.) a confusing plot involving rum, booty and impressed sailors ready to fill in the holes left by either a or b.
While the actual production details are still in the works, the likelihood of Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley returning is slim, which means the likelihood of Jack spending another 30+ minutes in a literal carte-blanche set is extremely likely. Sigh.
At any rate, Johnny Depp is now the highest earning actor in Hollywood, unseating the perennial Will Smith. So, uh, good for him, I guess.
