Dick Powell (Jimmy MacDonald) is a office clerk who loves to enter contests and hopes for a better life for he and his fiancé Betty (Ellen Dew). When he enters a contest for the best slogan for a coffee company, his co-workers think that they should him and forge a telegraph letting him know that he won the $25,000 contest. As a result, Dick gets a promotion and spends a lot of money on his fiancé. When the truth of hoax is reveled it ruins and devastates him.
