There are more versions of "Metropolis," Fritz Lang's great 1926 German expressionist-futurist masterpiece, than there are variations on a theme by Paganini. But this reconstruction by the Munich Film Archives is the definitive one. Digitally ...read the complete Metropolis movie review at Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This is a restored version of the 1927 classic silent film with a re-recording of the original score (not the version that was released in 1984 with a modern soundtrack including songs by Queen and Bonnie Tyler). "Metropolis" is an imaginative and visually stellar animated feature that doesn't suffer much from some minor concerns with story and characters. I seem to be lacking a certain gene that would allow me to be overwhelmed by giant, expensive cinematic spectacles. I do not believe that I could add any more to the praise for Fritz Lang's ground-breaking SciFi classic. Instead I will just add a bit of information for someone that is trying to track down a copy of Giorgio Moroder's fantastic version with his Rock ...

One of my favorite films. It's been well-reviewed before, so I won't say much, except that it is required viewing for anyone interested in film--writing, production, acting, any aspect. This restored, authorized edition is by far the best and is a ...

As one of the earliest examples of cinematic science fiction and fantasy, "Destiny" director Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" ranks as an unparalleled achievement in its size, scope, and vision. Forty years would elapse before Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space ...

This is absolutely one of my favorite films! It is a visually stunning movie, all the more for being made 82 years ago. Kino did a fantastic job of restoring the print to where it looks like a movie made much more recently. I have heard from several ...

Set in the future, Metropolis is a silent-film that showcases the time transcending theme of the social inequalities between the rich and the poor, between workers and the owners in capitalism. Even in 1926 when the book was written by Lang's wife Thea ...
