Road to Perdition (2002) scores a combined 2.40 out of 4 stars for Village Voice (J. Hoberman)Village Voice (J. Hoberman)
Visually more coherent than "American Beauty," but despite the burnished mahogany of Conrad Hall's cinematography, Mendes still doesn't quite know how to fill a frame. Like the Hanks character, he's a slow study: The action is stilted and the tabloid ...read the complete Road to Perdition movie review at Village Voice (J. Hoberman)

Early on in Sam Mendes’ 1930’s set gangster film Road to Perdition, one of the bad guys is asked, “Why are you always smiling?” and he replies, “Because it’s all so f**king hysterical,” with a small laugh. This is fairly ironic, because there’s next to ...read the complete Road to Perdition movie review at Movie Martyr (Jeremy Heilman)

A change from summer fare, but it doesn't make the picture compelling to watch. You won't find the detail of the "Godfather" films or the psychological complexities of Martin Scorsese's gangster movies. The plot holes are big enough to hide Al Capone's ...read the complete Road to Perdition movie review at Christian Science Monitor (David Sterritt)

Feels like a movie that keeps wishing it were something else: an award-winning play, a grand novel, an epic poem, anything but that populist thing we call a movie. Mendes makes movies as if he hates them. ...read the complete Road to Perdition movie review at Salon.com (Stephanie Zacharek)

Max Allan Collins, the former writer of the Dick Tracy Comic Strip wrote the graphic novel this story was based on. It this one Hank's character plays a hitman. His son follows him one day with tragic results. I don't want to give away too much. ...

ROAD TO PERDITION has become my favorite crime-drama. Hanks, and Newman turn in powerful, subtle performances in this poignantly beautiful film, but the cinematography almost steals the show. Conrad Hall's camera work throughout this quiet epic gangster ...

This is another film of great subtlety where I think Tom Hanks really plays one of his most daring roles as a father of two boys that also works for the mob during prohibition era. ...

Nothing I can say about this great movie hasn't already been said, but I love it so dearly I must write about it. It is ultimately a story of love and betrayal, duty and devotion, tempered by the stark black-and-white sensibilities of 30s-era crime lords ...

Road to Perdition (Full Screen Edition) I really love this movie. It is so dramatic and sad. The unspoken love of a dad for his son and the adventures they experience, though frightening, bring them closer together up to the sad ending that suprised my ...

We enjoy this movie greatly. It is one of the few movies we can see more than once and still get more out of it. Definitely one to own instead of rent. My son is 11, which is a little young to watch this. It is graffic with violence. But he also ...

A great movie! I rank it one of the top 10 among 300 movies I have been. It is neither a hit nor a populous one, but for me its greatness is parallel to Forrest Gump. Road to Perdition is not like Pirates of the Caribbean and the like that are purely for ...

Truly a great movie. Perfectly cast but the best one of all may be Tyler Hoechlin. He gave the best performance by a child actor that I ever saw. Right up there with Tatum O'Neal in Paper Moon. My favorite Tom Hanks movie will always be Forrest Gump but ...
