Video Game to Movie Madness: Original Saw Director Making Castlevania Film
I both love and hate video game to film adaptations, because I never expect a masterpiece going in, yet I'm somewhat ashamed that I am entertained by the likes of Resident Evil. It's a secret guilty pleasure of mine, and to me it beats Sense and Sensibility any day.
From Dorkshelf and BloodyDisgusting comes news that James Wan, director of the first Saw movie, will be directing the first Castlevania flick, due out in 2011. I loved the Castlevania games as a kid, so I'm excited for them to hit the big screen, even though they won't win any awards for best script/actor, etc.
Paul W.S. Anderson, of Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator and Death Race fame, was originally slated to direct, meaning that his wife, Milla Jovovich, would no doubt have been cast in a lead role. It's time game to movie adaptations get some fresh blood, and Wan is a great choice to take the genre in a new direction. I just hope we don't get another Van Helsing.
